in humility...

I love typing the words of a verse -- or, the part that I can remember, anyway -- and choosing what version I like best. It's good, because if there's a word or something you don't get or understand -- well, it's sort of like a thesaurus, in a way.

And right now, I'm going with the "New Living Translation".

"Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves."
-- Philippians 2:3.
In my quiet time this morning, that's what I got. I was praying, and suddenly "In humility, consider other better than yourself," exploded into my thoughts.

I had no idea where it was from -- beside's the Bible -- but I know it's something I struggle with. You know -- "Oh, well I know people like me better than her, so I don't really have to worry about being the un-coolest," or "Well, I'm not hanging out with them. That'd just be... not right."

I mean, how wrong is that? I've probably posted about this before, but that's because it's an on-going process. Jesus hung out with anyone and everyone -- but hey, wasn't it the unpopular, totally clueless ones who actually respected him and hung out with him? I mean, it seems like those Pharisee's were always plotting out to kill him. But Zacheous? He was a "bad" guy.

Jesus didn't consider himself better than everyone else. He wasn't selfish. He didn't try to impress people. He was humble -- and I'm pretty sure He considered others better than Himself.

Even though he wasn't. So I'm not sure how he managed that.

...I think that's where the humility part comes in. Hang on -- *dictionary.com*

–nounthe quality or condition of being humble modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.
Huh? So... let's say I'm the worlds awesomest dancer. [No, I don't dance. Unless you count ballet when I was little;)]  Instead of going on about how I'm just that good -- well, I'd look at the other girls in my group -- and encourage them, and tell them how they're good at first position and... oh, what's that thing.. oh, yeah -- plea's -- and instead of thinking about how good you are...

Well, in humility, consider other better than youself.

Okay, I don't have all the answers. [No kidding.]
So, tell us what you get out of the whole humility thing.
Because I don't know about everyone else -- but I'd really like to hear it.

Oh, this song just came on the radio that I absolutely love and it almost makes me cry and... I have no idea what it's called. :)

PS -- I just wanted to say thanks for following Bessie's blog. :D And my sisters, too -- but she didn't end up posting, so whatever.

  1. Wow.... that's great, em! i can't really relate to that! KUTAW! hehe
you are as pro as, man!

  2. Great post Emii! I'm not exactly sure what I think about the In Humility. I definitely agree with your dance situation! To not be full of yourself. If you're really good at something, don't focus on yourself, but helping others be good too I guess! Also, to just see everybody as equal importance. :)

  3. Wow. I really think I needed this post, Emii!!!
Humility is hard to come by, or at least for me. Thanks for this reminder!!!

    In Christ,

  4. I know this does NOT relate o the content of the post- it's an urgent prayer request.

My sweet friend Trini C at everythingtrini.blogspot.com had to evacuate her home in FL late last night due to a forest fire. She is only 14 and very scared (as I think most of us would be!!). Please pray VERY hard!
    Thank you so much.

    Trini's friend Erina(:

  5. Hello,
I just thought I would let you know that I love your blog! It is so encouraging and inspiring.
    Love In Christ,
    P.S Here is my blog:

  6. Great post - think we can all relate to that! It reminded me of a Nichole Nordeman song - pretty old now - called "Wide Eyed". It's kind of what you were saying with music added. The lyrics are really clever and confronting, and worth a look if you can track it down! oxo

  7. I liked that picture with the quote. It was very inspirational. I want to thank you for commenting on my most recent blog post. I am always appreciative when readers take a few moments to comment on what I have written. Drop by again any time.

    ~Elizabeth J.

  8. Thanks, Bess :)
Thanks for that, Shelley. I really like what you said about helping others...
Oh, it is hard, Lily! Only with God can we really do this...
Thanks, Chloe :) Checked it out. Love it!
Hey Dani, oh I'll check it out. Sounds like a good song. :D
Elizabeth J -- Thankyou! I found it in the Forever Friends Journal by Robin Jones Gunn -- which I reccommend to everyone, by the way! And thanks for taking the time to comment, too. :)

comments are fun.
